Frequently Asked Questions
What is Voiceral?
Voiceral is 21st century digital phone service. Voiceral is different from traditional, or "plain old telephone service" (POTS) analog phone service, in that calls are routed to and from your phone over the digital Internet. Call quality rivals and in many cases surpasses your traditional phone service, offering unprecedented control over your calling experience at a fraction of the cost.

Can I keep my existing phone number?
Yes. Upon sign-up, you can choose whether you would like to keep your existing phone number, or choose a new one.

Why should I switch to Voiceral?
Voiceral's service offers you full-service calling at unprecedented prices. Compare Voiceral to other services here. For $18.99 per month (when subscribed to the annual plan), our Unlimited Plan gives you local and long distance calling, which also includes unlimited calling to Canada at no additional charge. Our international rates are the lowest among all of our competitors. Voiceral is not subject to many of the federal taxes seen with traditional, non-digital phone service, which translates to an even greater savings for you. In addition, Voiceral offers calling features you can't find on traditional phone service (see the next question).

What features does Voiceral offer that old-style phone companies can't give me?
Beside a significant price savings for the same features of your old-style phone service, switching to Voiceral gives you additional features like call blocking (even if caller-ID information is displayed); the ability to manage your blocked call lists; intelligent and selective call forwarding and call following; the ability to change options right on your web browser 24 hours per day (no need to contact the phone company), and more. You can also have voice mail converted to email. Take Voiceral with you anywhere in the world there's a high speed Internet connection (such as a hotel), and everyone will still be able to reach you by calling the same phone number (and all outbound calls will be the same as having made them from home).

How does it work?
When you sign up with Voiceral, you are sent a small device called an ATA (analog telephone adapter), into which you plug your phone. The ATA changes your phone signal from the old-style analog signal into a high-speed digital signal. There's no need for extra equipment or wiring changes to your home. You use your phone in the same manner you do now. Voiceral replaces your existing phone service.

What is my total monthly cost for service?
Unlike other companies that go to great lengths to hide their various charges, we make all our fees available for public viewing. The Unlimited, $18.99/month Plan is the most popular plan. The total monthly fee for the Unlimited Plan is just $21.06 with all charges.

I don't have high-speed Internet access, can I use your service?
Digital phone services use data networks such as the Internet to allow you to place and receive phone calls. If you do not currently have high-speed Internet access, it may be worth your while to order a high-speed service, such as cable or DSL internet access so you may use Voiceral's Digital Telephone Service. If you prefer to not purchase a broadband internet connection but would still like to save money on your phone bill we recommend visiting www.paywayless.com. PayWayLess.com offers long distance calling for just 3.9¢ per minute and that price of 3.9¢ per minute includes all taxes and surcharges. Plus, PayWayLess does not require any monthly minimums and they do not have a base monthly fee like most other long distance providers, which makes PayWayLess a real value for your dollar.

Should I leave my voicemail on or turn it off?
It is recommended that you always leave your voicemail on even if you receive and retrieve your messages from your home answering machine. Most home answering machines are programmed to answer incoming calls on the 4th ring. So, if you still use your home answering machine to receive messages, you should set your voicemail to ON and select a number of rings that is two, or more, rings greater than what your home answering machine is programmed to pick up on. By doing so, you will never miss a message even in the event of a power or broadband internet outage. Also, by doing as is outlined above, if you have a call come in while you're on the phone with another party but can't answer that call, that call will be sent to your Voiceral voicemail.

Why do I hear a stuttering dial tone when I have messages in my voicemail?
A stutter dial tone is issued to your phone to indicate that you have voicemail waiting to be retrieved. You will also see the green light flashing on top of the Voiceral adapter indicating that you have voicemail waiting to be retrieved.

What happens to my dial-up access when I switch to high-speed Internet access?
You simply continue to access all your favorite spots on the internet. The only differences would be that web pages will load much more quickly for you, emails, especially emails with files attached to them, will now be sent more quickly PLUS, with a high-speed Internet connection and Voiceral's Digital Telephone Service, you will now be able to access the Internet and be on the phone at the same time. Additionally, you will now be able to save the money you were spending on the dial-up Internet access.

How do I connect all the phones in my home to the Voiceral service?
The process of connecting all the phones in your home to the Voiceral service is quite simple. The first method is to purchase a cordless phone system that operates multiple other cordless phones and only one of the phones needs to be plugged into a phone jack - such as the jack on the back of the Voiceral analog telephone adapter. If you live in an apartment complex and do not have access to the phone wiring within your building, this first method is the only feasible way to have phone service in more than one room of your dwelling area. The second method is to: First, disconnect the phone line that comes into your house from your old phone company. There is normally a small rectangular box (approximately 8" x 6") that is mounted either outside your home or inside your home, generally in the basement. Look for the phone wire running into this box. Inside the box, there is often a phone plug (RJ11 - the same as the one on your phone) that fed the signal from your old phone company to the phone wiring within your home. If this is the case, simply unplug that phone jack and leave it out of the RJ11 receptacle. Or, if there is no RJ11 plug and just bare copper wires within the box, you will see two very small copper wires that are connected to two separate screws within that box, remove those wires from their respective connections. Once you've unplugged or disconnected the outside wires to your inside phone wiring, simply plug a phone cord into the back of the Voiceral adapter and plug the other end of that phone cord into any of your existing phone jacks and the phone signal will now be sent to all the phones in your home that are connected to that wiring.

Calls to mobile phones within these countries are included as well, except, calls to mobile phones in Taiwan are billed at the current international rate.
